The HNC Electrical and Electronic Engineering for England programme is a vocational qualification that is designed to offer students practical experience in the typical tasks and requirements of engineering professionals and the underpinning academic knowledge.

This course will complement their ability to find solutions to engineering problems using developed technology and apply skills to a broad range of industrial areas, such as design, development, manufacturing, testing, maintenance and operation of electrical or electronic equipment.

This course is a Higher Technical Qualification (HTQ). HTQs are technical qualifications that have been developed by employers and awarding bodies so students can develop the skills that employers want.

Entry requirements

A minimum of 48 UCAS Tariff points from:

  • GCE A and AS Levels with at least one subject at A Level 

  • BTEC National (Diploma or Extended Diploma) in a relevant subject

  • Access to HE Diploma

  • T Levels

  • Scottish Higher/Advanced Higher with at least one subject at Advanced Higher

Plus

  • GCSE English – Grade C/4 or above

  • GCSE Maths – Grade C/4 or above

*For mature applicants, some experience may be taken in lieu of A Levels/BTECs

EU and International Applicants

  • ENIC confirmed equivalent of 48 UCAS points

  • IELTS with an overall score of 6.0 and a minimum of 5.5 in each component. Equivalent English language qualifications are acceptable for applicants not requiring a Tier 4 student visa

Study Details

Students will study on the Lincoln College Campus for the full durations of the course. Full-time, one-year. Course contact hours are typically comprised of: 14 hours of teaching with embedded practical work and use of software applications.

It is expected that students complete between 10 and 20 hrs of additional independent study per week in order to be successful on this programme. Whilst the sessions delivered at College will fall between Monday and Tuesday from 9am – 5.00pm, it is expected that students will only attend on up to three days.

Students should also make themselves available to complete additional workshop classes, for which PPE is required, to enhance their employability. Students are encouraged to find part-time employment within the sector.

Progression
HNC and HND qualifications are widely recognised in their own right and are designed to provide students with the skills required for employment in a range of associated professions. On successful completion of the course students may apply to continue at the college to study HND Electrical and Electronic Engineering for England (HTQ).

This course is validated by Pearson. The validating institution is responsible for awarding the qualification at the end of the programme.
