The FdSc Sports Coaching, Education and Development programme is a highly vocational course that embeds the principles of work based learning within all of the modules studied.

Alongside the vocational elements of the programme the learners also study a range of underpinning theories that facilitate their development. Students will also be provided with the opportunity to utilise their Career Degree Bursary to support their learning and continued professional development. The Career Degree Bursary could be spent on:

  • National Governing Body qualifications (e.g. 1st4Sport Level in Coaching Multi-Skills, The FA Level 1 and 2 Certificate in Coaching Football, SEQ Level 1 Swimming Assistant etc.)

  • Continuous professional development opportunities (e.g. Coaching courses and conferences)

  • City and Guilds Level 3 Award in Education and Training

  • Personal PE and Sports equipment

A minimum of 48 UCAS Tariff points from:

  • GCE A and AS Levels with at least one subject at A Level 

  • BTEC National (Diploma or Extended Diploma) in a relevant subject

  • Access to HE Diploma

  • T Levels

  • Scottish Higher/Advanced Higher with at least one subject at Advanced Higher

Plus

  • GCSE English – Grade C/4 or above

*For mature applicants, some experience may be taken in lieu of A Levels/BTECs

EU and International Applicants

  • ENIC confirmed equivalent of 48 UCAS points

  • IELTS with an overall score of 6.0 and a minimum of 5.5 in each component. Equivalent English language qualifications are acceptable for applicants not requiring a Tier 4 student visa

Other Entry Requirements

Applicants will need to undertake a DBS criminal record check to study on this programme. This may be able to be paid for using the Career Degree Bursary. Learn more about the DBS Check.

Students will study on the Lincoln College Campus for the full duration of the course. Full-time, two years. Course contact hours are to be confirmed.

Whilst the sessions delivered at College will typically fall between Monday and Friday from 9am – 5pm, it is expected that students will complete online study, in addition to the independent study, outside of these times.

Students should also make themselves available to complete work experience hours outside of these times. Many of the opportunities offered through the college will require commitment during evenings and weekends.

The assessment methods typically used throughout the programme include:

  • Practical assessments

  • Written examinations

  • Coursework portfolios

  • Written assessments


Progression
The course is designed to prepare and aid learners for a career in the sports coaching, teaching and sports development industries. Many previous learners have attained employment within these fields on completion of their Foundation Degree, whilst others have chosen to progress onto the BSc (Hons) Sports Coaching, Education and Development (Top-Up) at Lincoln College.

Per Academic Year

  • Home Students - £8,000

  • International Students - £9,500

Tuition fees will remain unchanged for the duration of a student’s continuous enrolment.

  • Sports kit - £130 (compulsory)

  • DBS check - £48.20 (compulsory)

  • Additional coaching courses (optional) - varying costs

Additional compulsory course costs may be able to be paid for using the Career Degree Bursary. The scheme allows students to access the bursary (up to a maximum value of £500 for full-time or £250 part-time students) for additional optional courses, workshops, professional memberships and resources. There is no cash alternative. Students who wish to access opportunities in excess of the Career Degree Bursary may do so at full cost to themselves.

This course is validated by the Bishop Grosseteste University. The validating institution is responsible for awarding the qualification at the end of the programme. Students on validated courses are OfS registered, funded and taught at Lincoln College and it is the responsibility of the College to manage all aspects of this provision. The validating institution maintains an oversight of the programme throughout the academic year and must be satisfied that students are being taught in line with the required academic standards of the awarding institution.
