Business student wins Award for Courage

The Awards for Courage, as hosted by the Rotary Clubs of Newark and Newark Castle at Newark Showground in March, honoured four young people who had accomplished great things despite facing challenging circumstances.

Newark College business student Hannah Richards was one of the individuals commended for her achievements, after being nominated by her tutors Amanda Bradford and Jennifer Bell. They said: “Hannah is the personification of courage and determination.

“She has found the strength within herself to push beyond all expectation and excel in her academic studies at Newark College.

“She is determined to be happy and successful.”

Attendees of the awards ceremony heard how despite suffering bullying throughout secondary school, Hannah has overcome low self-esteem and complex personal issues to attain high grades throughout her time at College. She is expected to graduate this summer with a distinction and start university in September 2020.

Hannah said: “I am very grateful to have won this award, it is nice to have my hard work recognised. I would like to thank Amanda and Jen for pushing and inspiring me to aim as high as possible.

“All of my colleagues on the course have played a part in helping me become the person I am and I am extremely grateful for the amazing experience I've had over the last 2 years.”
