Camper vans, renewable energy and automotive industries were among the businesses represented by Lincoln College this National Apprenticeship Week.
Head of Sales and Marketing at Lincoln College, Donna Moorhouse, says: “Lincoln College and Newark College have been celebrating their hard-working apprentices and our fantastic partner employers as part of the annual event.
“The week showcases the many benefits and opportunities that lie ahead for those currently partaking in apprenticeships, businesses involved and much more besides.
“Here at Lincoln College, we’re always keen to highlight the great things happening in this part of Further Education and to show just how much goes on behind the scenes as part of young peoples’ progress within this exciting sector.”
Often seen as a way to break into a career and to earn while you learn, Lincoln College focuses on developing skills and fostering fruitful relationships with the region’s businesses and beyond and is truly beneficial to all.
Apprentices get the advantage of being able to get direct experience of an industry and to develop their skills and employers have the ability to shape their workforce, teaching them their best practice and skills.
The focus is not purely on apprenticeships, but also T Levels, a more recent development within FE, but one that offers the chance for learners to access more technical-based qualifications.
Developed in collaboration with employers and businesses, they feature content that meets the needs of industry and prepares students for work, further training, or study.
As part of 2025’s celebrations, we have been out to visit various businesses, ranging from:
Motorhome and campervan specialists Camper UK, who currently have three apprentices on board at their Lincoln-based showroom and workshop
Wisby Electrical Services, based in Horncastle, have an apprentice learning everything from residential to commercial best practice in wiring, installs and more.
Automotive experts Prentice Autocare Ltd, a motor garage close to Howden, Goole, who have taken on a female apprentice who had a string of rejections before succeeding against more than 50 other applicants to learn technical skills to be able to work on cars.
UK Alternative Energy, who are working with two apprentices to gain both low carbon qualifications as well as electrical and gas engineering skills.
Project-based electric and gas experts, Harlaxton, who are working with an apprentice to ensure he can gain full time employment, planning out large electrical installations for large scale developments such as housing estates.
Sleaford Building Services (SBS) who have had several apprentices and are currently training with an Electrical apprentice.
Employer and owner of Prentice Autocare, Colin Prentice, said: “We are really pleased with Lincoln College, from the communication to the support, it’s head and shoulders above what we’ve experienced anywhere else. Our apprentice, Charlotte is supported and is doing really well here at the workshop, taking on lots of jobs and she is also doing well on her course.”
