The College already has a strong working relationship with the mechanical and electrical engineering specialist, who take on several of their apprentices for training every year within this field.
Matt Hallam, Design Manager at DBS said: “Currently we are strong with Newark College on the electrical trade apprenticeships. We take two or three students every year to go on to become electricians. We have also recently taken technical apprentices from the College, so any standout performers, we take into the office to start doing some design engineering.
“The technical apprentice we took on last year is excellent and the trade apprentice is also excelling on site, so it’s been successful all around.”
Based on the success of these projects, the Company are expanding their offering and plan to take on more apprentices and students for work placements from the College.
Matt said: “We also offer mechanical technical and trade apprenticeships, plumbing, heating, and ventilation. As well as business admin, finance, quantity surveying (which forms a degree course) and digital, which is drawing in a 3D environment.”
Matt offers the following advice to learners who are interested.
“Apply to [email protected] or come and talk to us at any careers fairs or events going forward, and make sure your CV stands out. We want to know about you, the outside interests you have and how well you have done at college – really sell yourself!”
Penny Taylor, Lead for Education and Training at Newark College said: “We are delighted to work in partnership with Derry Building Services. It’s wonderful to hear how well our current students are performing for the Company and we’re excited to build on this, to offer more training and hands-on work experience opportunities, in a variety of roles, to people in Newark and the surrounding area.”
