Students across Lincoln and Newark College have used their fundraising efforts to purchase gifts for the Cash for Kids charity.
Kicking off the festivities this December, students from a range of disciplines visited local B&M stores to handpick gifts for children aged 0-18, using the money they had raised throughout last month.
At Newark College, on Monday 1st December, Early Years and Hairdressing students teamed up to spend the £325 they had raised. Early Years students previously hosted a PJ Day and bake sale, raising an impressive £120, while Hairdressing students held a salon event offering a range of services - from full-head colours and wash-and-blow-dries to heated rollers, styling and root touch-ups - raising £205.
During their visit, the 40 students worked together as a team to allocate their budget. While some groups focused on purchasing gifts for boys and girls aged 12-18, others selected presents for children aged 9 -12.
At Lincoln College, 14 Level 1 Health & Social Care students spent £550 of fundraising on Tuesday 2nd December. Splitting into groups to choose a diverse range of gifts for different age categories, they came together to spread festive cheer.
Carys, a Level 1 Health & Social Care student at Lincoln College, said: “I found it really good that we got to get presents for kids who are less fortunate than us - it feels good seeing our fundraiser actually make an impact and spread so much happiness, and it made us all think and really work as a team.”
Chantelle Pegg, Health & Social Care Lecturer, said: “It’s been wonderful to see the students’ hard work come to fruition. They have all worked incredibly hard, been passionate about the cause, and proactive in planning their shopping lists and choosing lovely gifts for the children. It’s been a brilliant experience for them.”
These activities were a great way to conclude their social action project, allowing students to see first-hand the impact of their fundraising efforts and how they can use their skills for good.
