Creative support for Newark charity

November 10 2020

Students at Newark College have created a special sign for a local charity to help them with an exhibition they’re running to remember loved ones.

L2 carpentry and joinery students made the special commemorative sign for the Children’s Bereavement Centre, Newark, as part of their Daisy Remembrance Campaign.

The campaign involves members of the public donating for a metal ornamental daisy to remember someone and the sign includes the names of those being remembered. Each daisy will go on to form part of a special exhibition set to take place in the grounds of Newark Castle.

The students built the sign using wood kindly donated by Smiths Timber, a timber merchant based in Newark and the top graphic was also produced by a company based in town.

Rachel Wilson, Fundraising Manager at the Children’s Bereavement Centre, thanked the students for their support.

“Newark College joinery students were amazing in supporting our Daisy Remembrance Campaign. We wanted to have something to sit alongside the daisies in our Meadow of Memories exhibit in the Castle Grounds, to show the names of all the people that were being remembered.

“I contacted the College and as always the team there were only too happy to help. The joinery students were tasked with coming up with something and produced this amazing sign in a very short timescale. It’s perfect. Really classy and stylish, which is so important when you think about what the Daisy Campaign is all about.

“We would like to say a huge thank you to all the students and staff involved and in particular Seb Woloszyn for all the hard work in producing this for us. In the end the exhibit was sadly postponed due to Nottinghamshire going into Tier 3 restrictions for COVID-19 but it certainly won’t be wasted.

“We will be using it next year when we plan to hold the exhibit in March and hopefully the students will be able to make us another one as we will have more names to add. A heartfelt thank you to all involved.”

Rachel said the creation of the sign is the latest show of support for the charity by the college and thanked staff and students for their continued work.

The new dates for the daisy exhibition have been confirmed as March 19 to 21, 2021, in Newark Castle Grounds.
