Empowering Futures: The Future First Careers Expo 2024 Welcomed Over 1,370 Students from Nottinghamshire and Lincolnshire Schools

School students visit Newark College and the Air & Space Institute at the Future First Careers Expo.

As students prepared for a pivotal year in their educational journeys, the Future First Careers Expo made a significant impact, bringing together more than 1,370 students from schools across Nottinghamshire and Lincolnshire. This year's event proved to be an inspiring gathering of opportunity and exploration, empowering young people to navigate their futures.

The expo featured a strong lineup of schools engaging with local businesses and career advisors throughout the day. Students had the chance to interact directly with employers, ask questions, and explore various career paths in an interactive environment.

Veronica Dennant, Senior Lead Business and Skills at Newark and Sherwood District Council, said: “The Future First Careers Expo supports young people in realising their ambitions by showcasing the many career and educational opportunities available to them locally. This was a fantastic chance for businesses and educators to highlight the benefits of a career in their industry and inspire the next generation to take their first steps on the career ladder.”

Penny Taylor MBE, Head of Newark Campuses, said: “It was great to see prospective college students enthusiastic about their careers and asking engaging questions about the progression opportunities within Further Education. Our Newark College and Air and Space Institute (ASI) programmes are launchpads for students, bridging them to the professional world. We aim to empower individuals to explore and discover their passions, ultimately shaping their futures.”

Newark College stood out for its hands-on, industry-relevant education. It offered a diverse range of full-time vocational programmes, including Art & Design, Media, Carpentry & Joinery, Automotive, and Hairdressing. Each course was meticulously designed to align with the needs of local businesses. Students benefited from curriculum delivery by industry experts and modern workshops equipped with cutting-edge technology, ensuring they gained practical skills directly applicable to future employment.

The Air and Space Institute further enhanced this educational experience by providing specialised pathways into the Aviation and Space sectors. From Pilot training to Engineering, A Levels to Travel & Tourism, ASI offered innovative pathways that included unique opportunities such as a flight simulator, a real aeroplane for hands-on learning, and access to a world-class Airbus A320 Neo for skill development.
