Fostering a Safer College Community

Thanks to an international charity, Becky's Button, Lincoln College is fully stocked with 50 alarms to help students stay safe.

This collaboration is important for inspiring our young people to take action and build a safer community for the next generation.

The Becky’s Button Initiative is a global movement dedicated to enhancing women’s safety. Founded by Jane Houng to honour her daughter’s legacy, Becky’s Button empowers women, raises awareness of sexual harassment (both online and offline), and advocates for prioritising women’s safety without commercialisation.

Becky’s Button Founder Jane Houng, said: “Panic alarms give wearers a few vital seconds to run away, alerting people nearby that something bad is happening.”

Rebecca Jones, Safeguarding Lead at Lincoln College, said: “Some of our students live in deprived areas. To alleviate their fears, we reached out to the charity Becky’s Button, as these alarms can provide peace of mind.

“We were delighted that Jane, the charity founder, warmly replied and offered us 50 alarms. This will have a massive impact on our students' lives, offering them security. As a college, we are looking forward to collaborating with the charity, empowering our students by raising awareness and prioritising their safety.”

Before the end of the academic year, we hope to deliver gender-based workshops with Becky’s Button to empower students with the knowledge and tools to address gender-based violence, both online and offline.
