FUN AND FLIGHT AT THE FUTURE FIRST EXPO

November 03 2021

Newark College showed how they make learning fun at the careers fair held at Newark Showground today.

Around 1200 local secondary school students attended the Future First Expo where they discovered the options available to them in the future - including apprenticeships, further education and inspiration for their careers.

Newark College had an impressive interactive stand, where young people could engage in enjoyable and practical challenges, while finding out about the career-led, vocational courses they offer.

The electrical installations department had a range of wiring activities for visitors to take part in and Team Knowhow were there with their Newark College apprentices to demonstrate virtual reality headsets and tech equipment.

Also, stealing the show with a Red Arrow on display was the UK’s first International Air and Space Training Institute (IASTI), which is currently based at Newark College while a new state-of-the-art facility is built in the town for 2023. They were joined by Inzpire Ltd, who exhibited flight and drone simulators, enabling would-be pilots to put their skills to the test while promoting career options in the aviation industry.

Newark College’s Lead for Education and Training, Penny Taylor said: “We’ve got loads of interactive activities on our stand to demonstrate our hands-on approach to learning at Newark College. We make learning fun and relevant for our students, while also teaching them the skills, knowledge and behaviours they’ll need for their future careers.

“This year we’re delighted to be sharing our platform with our new International Air and Space Training Institute and showing young people in Newark that a career within the aviation and aerospace sector is within their reach – whether that be as a pilot, astronaut, engineer or ground staff.

“All-in-all it’s a fantastic day meeting prospective students and sharing the wide range of courses and apprenticeships available at Newark College.”

The Future First Expo is organised by Newark and Sherwood District Council alongside The Lincoln College Group and the Newark Advertiser. This year 50 local businesses and education providers were there to promote their services and meet their potential future workforce or students.

You can find out more about the range of courses and apprenticeships at Newark College including the IASTI programmes at our next Open Day on Thursday 11th November. Find out more and register to attend here: https://www.lincolncollege.ac.uk/open-days
