Lincoln College and Lindum Group apprentice Bella Bogg is set to compete in the national finals of a bricklaying competition after securing first place in the regional heats.
Bella, 18, won the Senior category at the Guild of Bricklayers’ contest held at Nottingham College.
Each competitor was given a brief and a set of drawings and was tasked with building a model featuring decorative brickwork.
Bella demonstrated her skill and dedication by successfully completing the challenge within the six-hour timeframe.
She said: “I felt a little overwhelmed by the task to begin with, but I soon got into the swing of it and felt all right.
“I’ve only been at Lindum for nine months, and it’s great to take part in opportunities like this.
“It shows that I’m learning so much from my mentors – they’ve helped me loads.”
Bella joined Lindum in 2024 and is gaining practical experience at Lindum Homes sites, including those in Waddington and Welton.
She trains at Lincoln College, which recommended her for the competition.
Mark Snell, Curriculum Lead in Plumbing and Brickwork at Lincoln College, said:
“We recognised that Bella had reached a stage in her development where her technical skill and dedication set her apart.
“While several students showed promise, Bella demonstrated the most advanced ability, and we believed that entering this competition would not only showcase her talent but also build her confidence.
“We are incredibly proud that she won first place at the recent Nottingham College event, competing against top apprentice bricklayers from across the East Midlands and Lincolnshire.
“Despite some early nerves, Bella quickly found her rhythm and delivered a high-quality piece of work. Her success is well deserved, and we’re thrilled she’s now progressing to the national finals in Sunderland.”
Jon Levey, Lindum Group Apprentice Manager, said:
“Nine months ago, Bella embarked on her journey with us as a first-year apprentice.
“Now she’s celebrating a well-deserved win at a regional bricklaying competition.
“We couldn’t be prouder of her dedication, skill and passion. Stories like hers are exactly why we continue to invest deeply in apprenticeships – nurturing the talented individuals who will shape the future of our industry and our communities.”
Matthew Hydes, Contracts Manager at Lindum Homes, added: “At Lindum, it’s always important that we share and celebrate the successes of our people, so I’m really pleased to see Bella doing so well. Congratulations.”
Alongside Bella, her classmates will be joining her in the final, Brandon Skinner won the senior men's trophy and Kristian Miksza secured second place in the junior men's category.
