Lincoln College celebrated the achievements of its Access to University students as they graduated in a special ceremony at The Drill, surrounded by family, friends and College staff. The event recognised the commitment, resilience and determination shown by the graduates throughout their studies.
The Access to University programme, also known as an Access to HE Diploma, is an intensive one-year qualification designed for adults looking to progress into higher education. Equivalent in UCAS tariff points to three A Levels, the course provides a recognised route into a wide range of university degrees.
Lincoln College works closely with higher education providers, including its own Lincoln College University Centre, to equip students with the academic knowledge and study skills needed to succeed at degree level.
With no upper age limit, the programme is open to adults returning to education after time away, as well as those looking to retrain or pursue a new career. Flexible course delivery helps students balance their studies alongside work, family and other commitments.
Students can choose from a range of specialist pathways to match their career ambitions, including nursing, midwifery, paramedic science, business, psychology, English literature, chemistry and policing.
Alongside subject-specific learning, students develop essential academic skills such as research, referencing, academic writing, presentations and report writing. Dedicated guidance is also provided throughout the UCAS application process, helping students confidently take the next step towards university.
Kimberly Mee, Curriculum Lead for Access to University at Lincoln College, said:
"Every one of our graduates has shown incredible determination and commitment throughout the year. Many have balanced studying with work, family life and other responsibilities, making their achievements even more impressive.
"Graduation is a celebration of how far they have come and the exciting opportunities that now lie ahead. We are proud to have supported them on their journey and look forward to seeing the positive impact they will make at university and in their future careers."
Many students choose to fund their studies through an Advanced Learner Loan, which is written off once they successfully complete a higher education degree, making Access to University an affordable and accessible route into higher education.
