Players from Lincoln College’s Pan Ability football team are celebrating after dominating in a recent competition held at the AOC PA Football Festival.
The team, which is made up of students on the Skills for Independence – Sport course, cruised to victory against three other colleges.
Played as 7-a-side games, with squads of up to 12 players, Lincoln College’s team beat Loughborough College 2-1 and Leicester and the YPLP teams 3-0.
Alice Perrier, said: “We’re so proud of our football stars, they really worked so well together to get these wins and it’s particularly great to have come from behind to beat Loughborough College this year as we lost every game last time. The progress and determination to win here really paid off.
“The students were outstanding ambassadors for the College, demonstrating exceptional teamwork and spirit. Initially, they doubted their chances in the tournament due to not having a coach. However, our Sport and Wellbeing Facilitator, Kieran Hardy stepped in at the last moment and helped unlock the team’s true potential. It was incredibly rewarding to witness them unite and achieve such an impressive result. What a proud and memorable moment!”
The three games won means that the team are now representing the East Midlands in a regional game against the West Midlands at the AOC National Tournament in April next year.
Kieran Hardy, added: “Pan-ability teams allow players with a broad spectrum of impairments and health conditions to play together.
“The lads were all dreading playing as they thought they might lose every game based on last year’s performance, but they showed real character and development to come back from 1-0 down against Loughborough College to win 2-1.
“They really came as a team and showed their class and sportsmanship throughout representing the College in a great light.”
The team was made up of: Ryan Roome, Michael Barrand, Channan Wilson, Jayden Smith, Jack Skuse, Ben Graham, Josh Spencer, Callum Belton, Michael Fergie Tansley, Ricky Lee Holland, Mitchell Turner, Connor Bull and John Fowler.
