Lincoln College has welcomed two new cohorts – a total of 12 Halfords employees from across the UK – for a three-day upskilling course.
With participants travelling from Aberdeen, Glasgow, Exeter, and Portsmouth, Halfords has once again invested in upskilling its workforce by enrolling employees on the T4 Master Technician qualification. The goal is to ensure each division has a qualified Master Technician.
Main Grade Lecturer at Lincoln College, Neil Corfield, designs bespoke courses for employers based on their specific training needs. This cohort has been undertaking the Level 4 Hybrid & Electric Vehicles course, which covers advanced electrics, chassis and communication systems, Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), and engine management.
Thomas Whatmough, a T3 Vehicle Technician based in Farnham, said: “I’m doing this T4 course to benefit my career. I’ll be able to carry out more in-depth diagnostics using the equipment we’ll be getting. It will allow us to diagnose faults precisely, and I’ll be able to support other technicians by sharing what I’ve learnt.
“It's been brilliant. Neil has been outstanding - his expertise and knowledge really show me what I can do. My colleague Nathan, that has already done this course, has shown me what he can do from this course, and it’s brilliant.”
The students have been working in our fully equipped workshops, using tools such as the Picoscope oscilloscope set and the Bosch KTS590 diagnostic tool. These resources help participants develop essential skills in diagnosing modern vehicles, exploring different diagnostic approaches, and ultimately improving workshop performance.
The Level 4 IMI Award in the Diagnosis, Testing and Repair of Electric/Hybrid Vehicles and Components is aimed at technicians involved in the maintenance and repair of high-voltage electric/hybrid vehicle systems. The course equips learners with the knowledge and skills required to safely work on live high-voltage components and associated systems.
With participants in this cohort bringing between 6 and 20 years of experience in the trade, it's clear that there is never a point in your career when you can’t continue to upskill. Whether you're an employer or an employee, this three-day course offers an excellent opportunity to enhance your knowledge and take the next step in your automotive career.
