Lincoln College Underlines Commitment to the Armed Forces

Lincoln College has officially pledged its commitment to supporting the Armed Forces by re-signing its Armed Forces Covenant.

Lincoln College has officially pledged its commitment to supporting the Armed Forces by re-signing its Armed Forces Covenant in a special ceremony held at The Drill.

The Armed Forces Covenant is a UK promise ensuring that those who serve, have served, and their families are treated with fairness, respect, and no disadvantage in society.

It covers areas like education, housing, and healthcare, with over 10,000 organizations, including businesses and councils, pledged to support the community. Lincoln College is one of very few Further Education Colleges to make this commitment.

Principal and CEO at Lincoln College, Mark Locking, said: “Signing this Covenant is very important to us as a College group. Many of our students are from Forces families and many of our staff are either former military service men and women or still volunteer in reserve or voluntary divisions.

“We feel that being in such an important region, particularly for the RAF and offering the courses we do, to be aligned and in tune with what the Armed Forces strive for is key.

Our Air & Space Institute in Newark offers many ways to work within military defence, so it makes perfect sense for us to forge strong bonds with this area of society.

“Equally, many of our engineering students will progress to defence and Armed Forces adjacent careers. We also have an excellent reputation for training and developing many young people that go on to work in Protective Services, something that also supports the Armed Forces.”

The occasion was marked by a special event, with distinguished guests attending a ceremony that showcased the Military Pathway students, Protective Services performing a drill and the College’s Performing Arts students entertaining the gathered crowd with wartime songs and Level 3 Dance Students performing a choreographed group dance to the song ‘Tea For Two’.

Lord Lieutenant of Lincolnshire, Toby Dennis also spoke, talking of the importance of the armed forces as the geopolitical climate changed and the links that the College has to keeping defence at the forefront of people’s minds.

He added: “Lincoln College Group demonstrates an unswerving commitment to the armed forces and the college very much deserves the Gold Award we are here to celebrate today.”
