Lincolnshire Engineering Company Supports Lincoln College’s Future Engineers

Students at Lincoln College are gaining valuable hands-on experience thanks to the continued support of local industry partner, Tong Engineering. 

Ahead of the half-term break, Tong Engineering generously donated demonstration-sized conveyor belt equipment to the College’s engineering department. The machinery will play a key role in practical workshop sessions, allowing students to develop essential maintenance and technical skills in a realistic, industry-relevant setting. 

The equipment enables learners to carry out tasks such as dismantling conveyor systems, adjusting belt tensions, and reassembling components to ensure the machinery operates efficiently and safely. These practical exercises are designed to mirror real-world engineering challenges, helping students build confidence and competence as they prepare for careers in the sector. 

This latest contribution forms part of an ongoing and evolving partnership between Tong Engineering and Lincoln College. The collaboration has been strengthened by the presence of an industry-experienced lecturer within the College’s engineering team, who previously worked at Tong. This connection has helped foster closer ties, leading to increased support and opportunities for students. 

Daniel Sofield, Mechanical Engineering Lecturer at Lincoln College, said: “Tong’s support for our students is fantastic. We are excited to further develop an enrichment programme within our Engineering provision, including site visits to their Spilsby-based facility and opportunities for T Level industry placements.” 

The partnership is already delivering tangible outcomes. Luke Cartwright, a current T Level student, has recently secured a job offer with Tong Engineering following a successful placement during the academic year. His achievement demonstrates the real career pathways that can emerge from strong collaboration between education and industry.

By providing practical resources, industry insight, and employment opportunities, these partnerships ensure students are well-equipped with the skills and knowledge needed to succeed in the modern engineering workforce.
