Tom Croft, currently studying a BTEC Extended Diploma in Mechanical, Manufacturing and Motorsport Engineering at Lincoln College was chosen by tutors following a continuous period of assessment achievement, engagement and attendance.
Lee Walters, Employee Development Manager at HPP presented Tom with his signed certificate and prizes in front of fellow students and staff.
Lee told students of the fantastic opportunities available and urged them to show passion, enthusiasm and not to underestimate the value of a good CV.
Their three-year Level 3 award winning apprenticeship can be applied for now.
Tom said: “I can’t believe it and am totally shocked.
“I am looking forward to my work experience placement now as it has been a dream to work in F1 and with such a world recognised team and am really interested in applying for the apprenticeship.
“I am going to save my prize money and put it towards a car.”
Previous winners at Lincoln College include Sam Cordwell, who successfully secured an apprenticeship at Mercedes-AMG working with the British Formula One world champions.
Jonathon Sims, Mechanical Engineering Lecturer at Lincoln College said: “It was tough decision to choose the student of the year especially with the strong calibre of learners we have on the course this year.
“But the commitment Tom has shown to his studies from the first day has to be commended.
“Tom’s engagement and classroom participation is second to none and his ability to work with his peers as well as individually make him an ideal candidate for the student of the year.”
