Learners from Newark College and nearby schools were given an insight into the employment and apprenticeship opportunities available to them, as they liaised with representatives from businesses such as Active4Today, R G Carter Construction and McDonalds.
Staff were also present from each curriculum area at the College to promote their courses to students exploring options for further study. This included advertising the new Care College and catering course launching in September 2020.
Art and design student Olivia Price found the exhibition useful. She said: “It’s giving me a good insight into what I want to do after college. I’m a bit unsure still, so I’ve been going round all the stands and getting lots of information.”
Local employers were eager to chat to the College learners. Mel Power, HR Business Partner at Bakkavor said: “We’re here today to show we’re more than a food factory. As a big food manufacturing business, we have a variety of opportunities, including apprenticeships where we can train you on-the-job while you get a qualification from the College.”
Flight Sergeant Arron Smith from the Royal Air Force said: “We’re promoting all roles in the RAF. We’re particularly looking for Vehicle and Mechanical Equipment Technicians, which is one of our priority trades.
"The College actually offers training in a lot of our priority trades so it’s great to be meeting students today.”
