Out of This World Catwalk: Hairdressing Students Put on Show to Remember

Level 2 Hairdressing students from Lincoln and Newark Colleges put together space themed catwalk on ASI Airbus.

Level 2 Hairdressing students from Lincoln and Newark Colleges were busy on Friday 27 March preparing their models for the ‘Create an Image’ unit.

Working to the theme of Space, students transformed their ideas from mood boards into striking, fully realised looks. From intricate hairstyles and bold make-up to imaginative costumes, creativity took centre stage as each student brought their vision to life.

Students were given the unique opportunity to present their work at the Air & Space Institute (ASI), where an Airbus aircraft was transformed into a one-of-a-kind runway. The setting elevated the experience, inspiring students to think beyond the ordinary and embrace theatrical, high-impact styling.

With more than 60 students involved across campuses, the event was a true celebration of collaboration. Staff, friends and family all came together to support the learners, creating an atmosphere that not only showcased talent but also strengthened the college community.

The project was further enhanced through a partnership with EMR Rail, enabling students to travel safely and smoothly to the ASI campus. This support helped bring the group together in one inspiring location, reinforcing the value of working collaboratively on a large-scale creative project.

Beth, a Level 2 Hairdressing student, embraced the brief with a Star Wars-inspired look, drawing influence from Padmé Amidala. Her design featured a rich red and gold colour palette, incorporating hair extensions, detailed plaits, a statement headpiece, a flowing cape and bold, dramatic make-up.

She said: “I’ve never done anything like this before, but I’m really enjoying it. It’s such a different way to express creativity and push yourself, and it’s a great opportunity to show what you can do.”

Cheryl Webster, Curriculum Lead for Hair and Beauty, said: “This has been a fantastic example of what can be achieved when creativity and collaboration come together. Our students have embraced the challenge with real enthusiasm, developing their skills and confidence throughout the process. Showcasing their work in such a unique environment has made the experience even more memorable, and it’s a brilliant way to celebrate their achievements at the end of term.”

Students were also recognised for their hard work and innovation, with prizes kindly donated by Wella.

The event not only celebrated technical skill and artistic flair but also created meaningful and memorable learning experiences.
