Higher education Sports Coaching students put classroom theory into action delivering PE lessons for local school children.

First-year students from FdSc Sports Coaching, Education and Development, and third-year BSc (Hons) Sports Coaching, Development and Pedagogy (Top-up) students come together to run the weekly physical education lessons.

The sessions are initially led and mentored by the third-year students with assistance from the first years, before the roles reverse and the first-year students take the lead to deliver the rest of the lessons.

This real-world experience enables the students to learn from each other and put into practice the new skills they have developed in the field - enhancing their employability and CV for after graduation.

Andy McGill, Sport Lecturer at Lincoln College, said: “Whilst many similar degree courses proclaim to be 'vocational' by their nature, this one truly is.

“Every week of their degree, our students are delivering PE lessons to a range of trusted partners, enabling our students to develop their skills and confidence within the industry.

“The feedback that we have had from local employers who have employed our graduates within the sector is that it is these experiences, alongside their academic studies, that are setting them apart from graduates from other institutions.”
