Student raises hair game to make final of UK Student of the Year Awards

Level 2 Hairdressing student Sophia Fox-Bonus has made it to the final of the national competition run by the Hair Council.

After winning a competition at Newark College, Sophia got a taste for competing and started looking for other student competitions to enter.

She then came across the Hair Council’s UK Student of the Year Awards and got the ok from her tutor to enter, so submitted her application.

Sophia has made it to the last eight and will be competing alongside students from other colleges across the country.

She said: “I feel completely elated! I keep imagining how it’s going to feel holding the trophy. I didn’t realise what a big deal it is to be in the final – it’s so exciting!

“The amount of practical time I’ve had to study at college had made all the difference – practice definitely makes perfect.

“It’s taught me to be patient, consistent and to learn from mistakes as well as being more precise with my work.

“I’ve also put in extra time around classes to get some practice in and every time I’ve learnt something new.”

Sophia will be competing for the title of UK Student of the Year on Sunday 10 June at the Goldwell Academy in London with the theme centring around creating a red carpet look.
