Students expand horizons at this year’s Careers Expo

Over 50 employers were on site today for learners from Lincoln College, Newark College and the Air & Space Institute, presenting excellent networking opportunities and job prospects. 

Representatives from a diverse range of sectors spoke with students, giving them the chance to share their CVs and even schedule interviews for work experience opportunities, placements or apprenticeships. 

Ellie Barnaby, a former ASI Engineering student, is now a Software Engineer at SRC UK. Ellie was exhibiting with her employer to inspire current students and promote upcoming vacancies. 

Ellie Barnaby, former ASI student, said: “When I was a student at ASI, I came to one of the expo events to look around the various stalls, and it really helped me get my CV out there, speak to different companies and explore the careers available. 

“Today, we’re here to talk to students, find out more about them and tell them about us. We’ve got a couple of positions opening soon, which is a great opportunity for them to get a foot in the door.” 

Steven, Area Manager at Camper UK, said: “Not many people are aware of the opportunities available in the motorhome industry. 

“We have opportunities on the engine side, including servicing and cambelts, as well as on the habitation side, which covers the living area. We also offer multi-skilled roles, where you can learn 12-volt electrics, woodworking, gas and plumbing.” 

Kayla, a Plastering student at Lincoln College, said: “I’ve spoken to Gusto and some other companies, which went really well. I’ve put my name forward for an apprenticeship.” 

From Elevate(her) Aviation and BAE Systems supporting aviation learners, to Balfour Beatty, Tong Engineering and Gelder for construction and engineering students, and Oriflame Cosmetics for Hair & Beauty and Butlin’s for Performing Arts, businesses from a wide range of industries hosted valuable discussions. The event helped students discover opportunities with companies they may not have previously considered.
