Students Start Their Ten Week Culinary Journey As The Junior Chef Academy Returns

Lincoln College has seen the return of the Junior Chef Academy this week, a 10-week course where pupils learn cookery skills.

Following the success from last year, Lincoln College has seen the return of the Junior Chef Academy this week, a 10-week course where pupils from Lincolnshire schools learn cookery skills and creativity in the kitchen.

Run by catering experts, Compass Group, the course is a free and expansive course that teaches everything from knife skills, catering for specific dietary requirements and covers techniques and styles of cooking to give young people the inspiration to forge a career in catering or foodservice.

Compass Group Executive Chef, Simon Coulter, said: "It's great to make a return to Lincoln College, we had such a great time here last summer and we've heard that 7 of our 14 pupils last time have chosen to pursue a course within catering or cookery, which is amazing. Whether the pupils choose to enter the industry or not, we aim to give them the skills to take away for life on how to prepare delicious food.

"It's also a great way to meet new people and to make new friends. We had a great crew last time and I hope our current junior chefs get as much out of it this year. Our first session tonight was to prepare a traditional leek and potato soup from scratch, complete with chive oil and home made croutons and we've seen them develop their knife skills too."

The course continues for the rest of term and will finish with a graduation ceremony, where parents and teachers will also be invited to be served by the students following their creation of a dazzling thre-course meal.

Stay tuned for more updates along the way!
