Violin making students wow at annual fiddle race

Learners from Newark College took part in the event where they were required to produce a themed violin in just 24 hours.

Five teams of five students from across years one, two and three competed against each other to produce the violins - with this year’s theme being ‘inspired by a musician’.

From Freddie Mercury to the Titanic, the entries covered a wide range of genres and styles.

Learning and Skills Lead for Musical Instrument Craft at Newark College Andy Wheeldon said: “This gives the students an excellent view of the processes and pitfalls early on in their course, way before they will encounter them naturally.

“It also gives them all the opportunity to work in teams and help one another.”
