Water-skiing Champ Rob Scoops top sports award

Lincoln College catering student Rob Hazelwood won Sportsman of the Year and overall Sports Personality of the Year at the Lincolnshire Sports Awards last week.

Rob, who is studying Level 3 Advanced Diploma in Professional Cookery,  is a water-skiing Junior World Champion and British record holder.

He said: “I was really delighted to get this kind of recognition, it was a great evening and one I’ll always remember. I was nominated for the Sportsman of the Year, but the Sports Personality of the Year is the top prize and I was really blown away when I got it”

Rob is studying cookery to ensure he has a fall-back career he loves while he continues to compete at water-skiing.

My two passions in life are water-skiing and cooking, so I guess I’m really lucky to be able to do both. It’s tough to make a living out of water-skiing so I know I have to build a career alongside it. I’m loving my course and my ultimate ambition, like many of us on the course, is have my own restaurant. I’d love to open a gastropub locally and emulate one of my heroes, Tom kerridge.”
