When I Grow Up: A Touring Production Inspiring the Next Generation

Performing Arts and Technical Theatre Students Bring Career Inspiration to Local Schools.

Students from Lincoln College took to the road last week with their energetic and powerful touring production, ‘When I Grow Up’, delivering a show packed with humour, heart and inspiration to local primary school pupils.

The production featured 22 Performing Arts and Technical Theatre students; all students played a vital role both on and off stage. The tour provided invaluable, real-world industry experience, giving students insight into every stage of the production process - from rehearsals and technical preparation to live performance and audience engagement.

Working collaboratively, students ran auditions, devised and wrote scripts, selected and adapted songs, and developed their characters - gaining hands-on experience that mirrors professional theatre practice.

Lucii, a Level 3 Year 1 Performing Arts student, said: “We performed to about 360 primary school children about future careers in today’s show at St Faith and St Martin Church of England Junior School. We created so much of it ourselves - from auditions and writing the scripts to choosing songs and changing the lyrics.

“I played the class clown, which was really energetic, and the audience were clapping along. It’s just really good having all these experiences I can get.”

The tour visited pupils at Witham Priory Academy, who shared positive feedback following the performance.“You can be anything you want!” said one pupil, while another added, “It was very funny!”

Beyond entertaining its audiences, ‘When I Grow Up’ showcased the creativity, teamwork and professionalism of Lincoln College students, while inspiring young people to think confidently about their futures.
