Mental ill health and stress are associated with many of the leading causes of disease and disability in our society.
Promoting and protecting the mental wellbeing of the workforce is important for individuals’ physical health, social wellbeing and productivity.
Positive social wellbeing can usually be obtained from relationships with colleagues, from their sense of value, connection and belonging.
There are a number of elements to this section of the You Matter offer, including:
Relaxed Dress on Fridays and During Non-Term Time
The college has a relaxed dress code policy that applies to Fridays during term time and the weeks where it is non term time.
Staff are reminded to apply good judgement in terms of appropriate and presentable relaxed dress at all times i.e. relaxed dress that is appropriate for work.
If staff are involved in hosting external visitors they should use their personal judgement to determine whether business attire is the most appropriate form of dress.
Sessions Pay Day Bar
If you fancy unwinding with colleagues over a few drinks you can pop into Sessions between 4.30pm and 6.30pm.

Employer Supported Volunteering (ESV)
ESV is where employees can choose to take paid time off to volunteer during their working hours. The benefit of volunteering is twofold; for the volunteer who develops their skills and the beneficiary who directly benefits from the intervention.
ESV is encouraged for local charities and community groups that support (for example) young people, disability, sports, homelessness etc. In addition, the College recognises that employees have their own preferences and as such employees may use their volunteering time to support a charity of community group of their choice.
Time off for volunteering leave is paid up to 2 days per rolling 12 months, subject to usual line manager approval.
Pink Ribbon Charity Events
The internal staff initiative that was originally set up in 2006 following a college staff members breast cancer diagnosis has continued to grow with many local charities benefitting from fund raising.
Contact Sarah Adams (Governance Officer) for more information.
