Do you want a better understanding of children and young people’s mental health? This Level 2 course will support you to do that and give you the knowledge you need.
You will learn about the concept of mental health and how society’s view of mental health has changed over time. You’ll also learn about the legislation in place to support children and young people’s mental health.
We will cover the risk factors that can affect children and young people’s mental health and how these can be mitigated. You will also look at how developmental changes and puberty can impact children and young people.
You will explore the behaviours displayed by children and young people that may indicate a mental health concern. You will look in more detail at common mental health conditions that affect children and young people.
You will also investigate the impact of mental health concerns on children, young people and others and the importance of diagnosis and the reasons why there may be a reluctance to seek a diagnosis.
You’ll also discover how to support children and young people with mental health concerns, including the different approaches, how to promote mental well-being in children, and the available services and treatments.

There are no formal entry requirements but this course is ideal for anyone wishing to pursue a career in the care or education sector.
This course is funded through the College’s Adult Education Budget. You must be 19 or older on the first day and duration of the course and not live in a devolved area.
Assessment & Progression
Continued on line assessment throughout the course. You will be expected to complete and submit units on a regular basis.
