Testing the patience of parents is a normal and healthy aspect of a child’s development, as it serves as a way for them to explore their independence. While these challenging moments can be tough and frustrating for parents, they are typically temporary.
However, when a child’s distressed behaviour becomes prolonged, it can manifest in various ways, including anger, inattention, physical or verbal aggression, social withdrawal, self-harm, or potential harm to themselves or others. The underlying causes of such behaviour can be complex and multifaceted, and if not addressed, may lead to more severe mental health issues during adolescence.
This online short course will enable you to gain a general awareness of the causes of distressed behaviour, along with an understanding of appropriate ways to support a child displaying distressed behaviour.
Also, you will consider how other characteristics such as mental health, learning disabilities and sensory processing or autism conditions can play a role in distressed behaviour being displayed by a child.
You will gain an understanding of how current UK legislation underpins approaches to providing support for a child who displays distressed behaviour.
This course is ideal for those who wish to develop their knowledge and understanding of distressed behaviour in children. It’s also valuable for anyone who is planning a career that requires an understanding of distressed behaviour and is looking to gain a qualification in this. The course is suitable for those who want to form a foundation due to little or no previous experience of the topic.
