Learn English with the ESOL Programme at Lincoln and Newark College.

The ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) courses are designed for individuals looking to improve their English skills for work, everyday life, or further education. Courses cater to a range of skill levels, from Entry Level 1 to Level 2, and are assessed through the Trinity College London – Skills for Life exams.

During this course, you will learn:

  • Speaking and Listening: Includes individual and group sections with external examiners.

  • Reading: Text comprehension and questions.

  • Writing: Producing various texts in English.

  • Levels Available: Entry Level 1, Entry Level 2, Entry Level 3, Level 1, and Level 2

    Before starting, you will need to book a short English assessment to determine your level.

    This course is an excellent pathway to improving your language skills, opening opportunities for further education and employment.

    Entry requirements

    You must be aged 16+. There are no formal entry requirements, but the interview and test will help us check that you are able to study this course. You will need a basic ability in communication before you can start Entry Level 1.

    Assessment & Progression

    You will be assessed for each unit; Unit 1 - Speaking and Listening: English Speaking Board exam with external examiners. Individual and group sections of the exam. Unit 2 - Reading. English Speaking Board exam using texts and comprehension questions. Unit 3 - Writing. English Speaking Board exam assessed by external examiners. You will write a number of texts in English.

    What You Will Need To Bring

    You will need to bring pens, folders and writing paper. You can also bring dictionaries or mobile phone apps for translation.
