Do you like a more practical way of working? Do you want to work with vehicles or machinery? Maybe you want to be a mechanic or engineer but don’t know where to start. This course is your first step.

In this course, you’ll learn about the maintenance of all kinds of vehicles and machines that are used in the Automotive sector. If you have a keen interest in vehicle maintenance, you’ll have the opportunity to further develop and enhance your knowledge and skills.

Having already completed our automotive level one qualification, our level two course is designed for those wishing to enter into the Vehicle Maintenance sector of the Automotive Industry.

During this course you’ll learn:

  • Health, Safety and Good Housekeeping

  • Support for Job Roles in the Automotive Environment

  • Materials, Fabrication, Tools and Measuring Devices Used in the Automotive Environment

  • To plan, Prepare, Carry Out and Report on Routine Light Vehicle Maintenance

  • To remove and Replace Light Vehicle Engine Mechanical and Lubrication System Units and Components

  • To remove and Replace Light Vehicle Heating and Cooling System Units and Components

  • To remove and Replace Light Vehicle Fuel, Ignition, Air and Exhaust System Units and Components

  • To remove and Replace Light Vehicle Electrical Units and Components

  • To remove and Replace Light Vehicle Chassis Units and Components

  • Knowledge of Removing and Replacing Light Vehicle Transmission and Driveline Units and Components

Entry requirements

You’ll need English Language and Maths at GCSE grade four or above, successful completion of our Level One automotive course, a recent school or college report which shows satisfactory attendance and behaviour, and the ability to arrange and complete at least 35 hours of subject related work experience.

Assessment & Progression

Assessment: Assessment is by Online Assessments and a portfolio of evidence.

Progression: When you complete this course, you can progress onto further training and education in automotive and engineering subjects (including apprenticeship) or to a job role in the vehicle maintenance sector.

What You Will Need To Bring

You’ll need workwear and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) from our preferred supplier which is navy blue overalls and steel toe-capped footwear, you will also need a copy of the course textbook: 'Automotive Technician Training: Theory, Levels 1/2/3' ISBN-: 978-0415720380.

You’ll also need general stationery equipment, a set of headphones (as supplied with many mobile phones) for research and revision tasks and access to the internet; PCs are available on campus.
