Level 2 Caring for Children and Young People

  • Campus

    Lincoln Campus and Newark Campus

  • Start Date

    September 2026

  • Duration

    1 Year (Full-time)

Are you great with kids? Do you enjoy helping them play and learn the world around them? If you think that a job looking after children and young people is for you, this is the perfect course.

This hands-on course will see you complete 30 hours of work experience, which is a great way to get a better understanding of how your class studies relate to the reality of working with children. The course covers both an Award in Babysitting and a Level Two Certificate in an Introduction to Caring for Children and Young People.

We have high expectations of you as this type of role can be challenging at times and demands high standards.

You’ll be expected to organise your workload and develop both practical and study skills throughout the course.

During this course, you’ll study:

  • Keeping Children Safe in a Babysitting Environment

  • Craft Activities with Young Children

  • Children and Young People Development

  • Safeguarding the Welfare of Children and Young People

Entry requirements

You’ll need 4 GCSEs including Maths and English Language (minimum grade 3 or equivalent)

You’ll also need two good references (one must be from an employer or a recent school/college report). You’ll also need to show good communication skills for working with children at interview and complete a written assessment.

It is really important for you to have a criminal records check called an enhanced DBS check before you can go on your work placement.

So, you need to be aware that if you’ve received a caution, reprimand or conviction it may mean we can’t enrol you on the course and you won’t be able to get a job in the care and childcare sectors.

Assessment & Progression

Assessment: You’ll be assessed by written assignments, reflective journals, group work and assessments of practical skills.

Progression: By passing this course, you could progress onto a level three Early Years Educator course or into an apprenticeship in childcare.

What You Will Need To Bring

You’ll need some general stationery items and access to the internet. PCs are on campus for you to use as needed.
