Are you quite handy around the house? Do you thrive doing practical tasks? Fancy a job in the construction industry? This bricklaying course will give you the skills and know-how to progress into construction work.

You’ll learn brick and block laying while working practically and theoretically to prepare you for a job in the construction industry. Due to unprecedented demand, this course may be oversubscribed, we will be in touch to discuss alternative course

You’ll be expected to organise your workload and develop both research and study skills throughout the course.

During the course, you’ll study:

  • Health, Safety and Welfare in Construction

  • Principles of Building Construction

  • Information and Communication

  • Building Solid Walling

  • Isolated and Attached Piers

  • Interpreting Working Drawings to Set Out Masonry Structures

  • Construct Cavity Walling Forming Masonry Structures

Entry requirements

You’ll typically need to have completed a Level 1 Bricklaying programme and have GCSEs in Maths and English (preferably a minimum Grade 2 or equivalent).

You’ll also need to attend a Welcome Day event which includes a practical taster and an informal interview.

Assessment & Progression

Assessment: You’ll be assessed by a combination of practical assessments, paper-based and online theory exams.

Progression: If you successfully complete the Level 2 Diploma, progression would be onto a Level 2 Apprenticeship Standard, it could then lead to a career in the construction industry.

What You Will Need To Bring

For this course, you’ll need, Workwear and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) from our preferred supplier and a copy of course textbook: ‘Level Two Diploma in Bricklaying’ ISBN-: 978-0851932682.

You’ll also need General stationery and access to the Internet; PCs are available on campus
