Do you love acting, dancing or performing for an audience? Is singing your thing? Maybe you want to avoid the limelight but still work in performing arts. In any case, this course could be for you.
This course will provide you with practical skills, understanding, and knowledge of careers in the theatre industry. You’ll also learn to be organized and gain the confidence to perform in front of an audience.
There will be many chances to perform at venues outside of college and to gain work experience as part of your course. You will meet and work with professionals from the industry and see live professional shows and events.
During the course, you’ll:
Explore the different types of jobs available
Practice your rehearsal skills
Take part in plays, musical pieces, songs, and dance
Help 'front of house' and backstage
Entry requirements
You’ll need Three GCSEs, preferably including Maths and English at a minimum grade Three. Performing Arts applicants are asked to perform a contemporary or classical monologue, and/or a song (each approximately 2 minutes long). Your audition will take place during your 'Welcome Day'. Applicants also need to email a short, written statement that tells us about your interest in Performing Arts, your interest in our course, and the reasons for choosing your audition material.
Assessment & Progression
Assessment: There is no exam. Coursework is all internally assessed through a combination of interim and formal assessments at the end of each project. You will organize your research and reflections into a portfolio for submission. The final project is graded pass, merit or distinction.
Progression: When you complete your course you may be able to progress onto Level Three Performing Arts, Music, Dance or Production Arts to further develop your skills and knowledge in your chosen career.
What You Will Need To Bring
You’ll need to buy a set of our branded Lincoln College uniform. An initial fee is payable at enrolment as your contribution towards the compulsory trips on the course. You’ll also need general stationery equipment, including a memory stick/pen drive and access to the internet; PCs are available on campus. Steel toe cap shoes/trainers/boots, a range (colour and style) of pencils and sharpies- preferably a mechanical pencil, a steel ruler (30 or 40cm) and a scalpel/craft knife will also be needed. Specialist Items relating to subject fields within Production will be discussed at interview.
