Do you consider yourself to be a protective person? Are you calm and collected in stressful or dangerous situations? Maybe you’ve thought of a career in the Armed Forces or emergency services. If so, this course may be for you.
If you want to pursue a career in public services then this is an excellent place to start. This course will provide you with the underpinning skills and knowledge to develop your skills and understanding of public services, giving you a variety of opportunities.
Study is both practical and theoretical.
During this course, you’ll study:
Public Service Skills and Support for the Community
Employment in Uniformed Public Services
Health and Fitness for Entry into the Uniformed Public Services
Activities and Teamwork for the Public Services
Expedition and Land Navigation Skills
This is a one-year course which is studied alongside English and Maths as part of your study programme.
During your study programme you will be required to complete volunteering, take part in enrichment activities and complete at least 30hrs relevant work experience.
Entry requirements
You’ll need four GCSEs at Grade Three and above or equivalent, which include English Language and Maths. You’ll be encouraged to attend a taster day and may be required to provide a reference (from an employer or recent school/college report)
You’ll also need to demonstrate an ability to cope with a programme of physical activity.
Assessment & Progression
Assessment: Assessment is a combination of coursework, presentations and practical tests/observations and building up a portfolio of evidence.
Progression: Successful completion of this course could allow you to progress to a Level Three Protective Services programme or into a career in the Public Services e.g. Royal Navy, Royal Marines, The Army, Royal Air Force, Ambulance Service, Police Service, Prison Service, Customs and Exercise, Coastguards.
What You Will Need To Bring
You’ll need an indoor practical kit with an option to purchase from our preferred supplier. You may also need an outdoor/residential kit for Skills for Outdoor Activities experiences.
You’ll also need general stationery equipment and access to the internet; PCs are available on campus.
