If you are passionate about supporting others and making a positive difference in people’s lives whether in health, social care, or childcare settings - this course could be the perfect place to begin your journey.


This Entry Level to Level 1 programme is designed for school leavers and young people who may need additional support with learning. It aims to develop confidence, independence, and the essential skills required to begin a career within the health, social care, or childcare sectors.
On successful completion of the course, you will achieve an Entry Level 3 or Level 1 Certificate in Skills for Employability and Development.


The programme includes the study of English and mathematics through accredited Functional Skills qualifications, alongside ongoing personal and professional development. Learners will also take part in tutorials, enrichment activities, and enterprise projects to support their overall development.


There is also the opportunity to undertake an optional work experience placement within a health, social care, or childcare setting, providing valuable insight into the workplace. In addition, learners are encouraged to engage with their local community through social action projects.


Guest speakers, workshops, and practical lessons form an integral part of the course, offering a broad and engaging introduction to the sectors and supporting learners in taking their first steps towards a meaningful and rewarding career.

Entry requirements

There are no formal entry requirements needed but you should have a desire to progress, a strong interest in Health and Social Care or Childcare and a willingness to learn. You will be expected to attend a Welcome Day, Taster and Interview. A BKSB assessment will be carried out to determine Maths and English levels.

In addition, a Support Needs Assessment will also be carried out, to identify any additional needs. Applicants with an EHCP (Education, Health and Care Plan), will be subject to consultation.

Assessment & Progression

Assessment: Assessment is a combination of practical activities and collation of work in a portfolio.

Progression: This course offers learning support with your studies and the curriculum is geared to get you to progress your independent living skills and develop yourself in ways which will help you to make the transition into mainstream studies or supported employment.

What You Will Need To Bring

You'll need the following stationery items: A pencil case with a black pen, pencil, ruler, rubber, pencil sharpener, A4 folder, A4 lined notepad, A4 punched pockets and file dividers.
