A Fresh Chapter for Sessions Restaurant Following Purpose-Built Refurbishment.

Sessions Restaurant at Lincoln College undergoes major £90,000 refurbishment to create a modern, industry-standard training environment.

Sessions Restaurant at Lincoln College has entered an exciting new chapter following a major £90,000 refurbishment, transforming the space into a modern, industry-standard training environment after securing funding from the Savoy Educational Trust.

The project introduced a contemporary bar area alongside a refreshed dining space, ensuring the front-of-house experience now matches the quality of the College’s recently upgraded, state-of-the-art production kitchens.

Lauren Harvey, Head of Innovation and Projects at the Lincoln College Group, said: “To receive funding from such a respected organisation as the Savoy Educational Trust is an outstanding achievement for the College.

“It strengthens our position as a leading provider of hospitality training in the region and will deliver a lasting impact on our learners, providing them with a modern, aspirational setting that mirrors industry standards.”

The refurbishment also addresses the ongoing skills shortage facing the UK hospitality industry, worsened by Brexit and the pandemic. In 2023, there were over 100,000 vacancies across the sector, particularly in front-of-house roles. The tourism and hospitality sector is a significant contributor to the Lincolnshire economy, yet the county continues to experience vacancies at all levels – including front-of-house staff, kitchen roles and management positions – which employers are struggling to fill.

By upgrading Sessions Restaurant to include an industry-standard bar and modernised dining area, the project directly responds to this skills gap, equipping over 200 learners each year with vital, real-world experience in both culinary and customer service skills.

As a fully operational restaurant open to staff, students and the public, Sessions Restaurant has long been central to hospitality education at Lincoln College, providing learners with invaluable experience in a live service environment.

Students are now working in a professional, aspirational setting that mirrors modern hospitality venues, allowing them to develop front-of-house and customer service skills in surroundings that feel authentic and industry-relevant. The new space boosts learner confidence and engagement, supporting smoother transitions from education into employment.

The renewed Sessions Restaurant has also strengthened links with the local community and hospitality employers. Members of the public dining in the restaurant now experience students’ work in a setting that truly showcases their talent.
