Beyond the Physical returns to Lincoln College University Centre to continue challenging traditional thinking in PE and sport

Challenging traditional thinking towards PE and sport was once again at the heart of the day.

Challenging traditional thinking towards PE and sport was once again at the heart of the day, as Higher Education Sports Coaching, Education, and Development students engaged in a follow-up CPD session delivered by Daniel Taylor and Marc Hipwell of Beyond the Physical at the Lincoln College University Centre earlier this week.

Following the success of their previous visit, Daniel, with Marc, returned to build on the conversations and practical learning established last year, continuing their mission to inspire future educators to rethink how PE is delivered in schools.

In an interactive keynote and workshop, Daniel revisited his theme of ‘Move, Solve, Connect’, expanding on how primary PE can be a powerful tool for personal growth, inclusion, and long-term engagement in physical activity. The session once again encouraged students to question sport-dominated PE curriculums and to focus instead on developing fundamental movement skills through a mastery-based approach - helping young people become confident, capable, and motivated movers for life.

Programme Lead for HE Sport Coaching, Education, and Development, Scott Bastow, said:

“It was fantastic to welcome Daniel and Marc to Lincoln College University Centre. Their approach really complements what we strive to teach our students - that great PE isn’t just about sport, it’s about people. Their continued involvement with our programmes gives students invaluable insight into how the sector is evolving and how they can be part of that change.”

The practical workshop once again brought the theory to life, with students engaging in activities that modelled Beyond the Physical’s philosophy of inclusive, purposeful movement. The session encouraged collaboration, creativity, and reflection - key attributes for any aspiring educator or coach.

Daniel Taylor expressed his appreciation for the ongoing collaboration:

“It’s been brilliant to come back and see how much enthusiasm the students have for developing as practitioners. Supporting the next generation of educators is essential to achieving long-term change in PE, and working with Scott and his team helps us to do exactly that. We’re already looking forward to returning again.”

Beyond the Physical continues to work with educational institutions across the UK to promote PE as a driving factor for young people’s development - physically, socially, and emotionally.
