Two Lincoln College bricklaying students have shown their skills and competitiveness at a recent regional competition.
Brandon Skinner won the senior men's trophy and Kristian Miksza secured second place in the junior men's category of the Guild of Bricklayers Contest, held recently at Nottingham College.
Following his win, Brandon is now set to compete in the national finals, being held in Sunderland.
Each competitor was given a brief and a set of drawings and was tasked with building a model featuring decorative brickwork.
Curriculum Lead for Construction Apprenticeships at Lincoln College, Jon Cotton, praised the students, saying: “It’s so rewarding for Lincoln College to see their students thrive like this. We’re very grateful to the Guild of Bricklayers for these events as it enables our apprentices to showcase their skills, build their confidence and share good practice with other bricklaying students from around the region. Huge congratulations to Brandon and Kristian, as well as Bella Bogg, who won the female category too!”
Assessor and Instructor in Trowel Occupations, Nigel Spring, said: “Kristian, who works for Grey Willow Developments is very mature for his years and has excellent skills and work ethic. He is incredibly professional and is in his second year of his apprenticeship.
“Whilst he came second, in my view he was very close to winning and he certainly has every reason to be pleased with his achievement as all of us at Lincoln College are.
“Brandon is a second year apprentice at Rob Salel who also has excellent skills and a great work ethic. He worked hard on the model in the competition being one of the only two competitors to completely finish the model and gained a well-deserved first place.”
Grey Willow Developments’ Adam Lovett, said: “We are incredibly lucky to have Kristian, he’s been very impressive during his time with us so far and this competition confirms his commitment and skill.”
Rob Salel, said: “Brandon is a great employee and we’ve been pleased with his work. Well done on this success and all the best for the national competition!”
This news comes alongside female bricklayer Bella Bogg, who also won her category and is to also compete at national level.
