A Lincoln College University Centre graduate is set to inspire future engineers after progressing from a Higher National Certificate (HNC) in Mechanical Engineering to a career in teaching.
Raegan, who completed the Mechanical Engineering HNC at Lincoln College in 2025, has successfully secured a role as a Teacher of Engineering at Lincoln UTC following the completion of a Secondary PGCE.
Having already worked within the engineering industry, Raegan chose to study the HNC to further develop his technical knowledge and skills.
“I was working in the engineering industry and wanted to increase my knowledge,” said Raegan. “Lincoln College University Centre offered a well-recommended and local course, making it the ideal choice for me.”
Reflecting on the programme, Raegan praised the supportive learning environment and expertise of the teaching staff.
“The course was very organised, and the modules were easy to follow. The staff had expert subject knowledge and broke down the content exceptionally well. The ethos of the course was positive and friendly, and both staff and students were approachable and supportive.”
Raegan also encouraged prospective students considering the course to embrace the challenge and make use of the support available.
“Try not to get overwhelmed by the difficulty of the content. It may seem like a mountain to climb initially, but the support from staff and peers is there to help you through.”
The Mechanical Engineering HNC played a key role in Raegan’s academic progression. Combined with a Design for Industry degree from Northumbria University, the qualification helped secure a place on the Secondary PGCE programme at Lincoln Bishop University. Having now qualified as a teacher, Raegan will begin his new role in the Engineering Department at Lincoln UTC.
Joshua Lack, HN Coordinator and Lecturer in Mechanical Engineering at Lincoln College University Centre, said:
“The true value of our Higher National programmes in Mechanical Engineering isn't just found in the classroom; it is proven by where our students go next. Higher Education provides a vital launching pad that transforms academic potential into remarkable, real-world success.
“It is incredibly rewarding to witness our alumni thriving. For instance, alongside Raegan we have seen recent graduates such as Georgia Davey and William Kitchener progress into teaching within STEM fields to inspire the next generation.
“Beyond education, the programme opens doors to the absolute pinnacle of industry. We are immensely proud to see our former students secure fantastic careers with elite organisations worldwide, including Red Bull Racing, Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One Team, Rolls-Royce, BAE Systems and Siemens Energy, to name but a few.
“Hearing about their achievements validates everything we do and proves that an HN qualification from Lincoln College University Centre can unlock many professional opportunities.”
