Sports Coaching Student Honoured at Lincoln College Graduation for Outstanding Commitment to Industry

Sports Coaching graduate, Lex, was presented the “Outstanding Commitment to Industry” award at the Lincoln College University Centre graduation ceremony on 30 October 2025, recognising his exceptional dedication to sports coaching and community involvement.

Lex, who studied the Foundation Sports Coaching, Education and Development degree course, was awarded the prize due to his contributions through both his academic studies and practical coaching work, notably with Synergy Sports Coaching and Lincoln United Football Club.

Staff praised Lex's dedication and impact. Course Lead, Scott Bastow, said: “We are incredibly proud of Lex for receiving the Outstanding Commitment to Industry award. His dedication and determination to grow as a sports coach and PE teacher shines through in his work with Synergy Sports Coaching and Lincoln United, and it’s wonderful to see his efforts recognised in this way.

"Lex truly embodies the qualities we strive to nurture in our students at Lincoln College University Centre, and we hope his journey will inspire others to follow in his footsteps.”

Gemma Bell, Sports Lecturer and Director of Junior Football and Community at Lincoln United FC, added: “Lex is a shining example of the strong partnership between Lincoln College and Lincoln United FC and is a deserved winner.

"He has been a dedicated coach, bringing his skills from the classroom onto the football pitch with real impact. His support for the girls, along with the rapport he has built with them, has been outstanding. I have no doubt that they are better footballers because of him.”

After winning the award, Lex expressed his appreciation. He said: “I am very grateful for the award and would like to thank all the HE tutors, especially Gemma Bell and Scott Bastow, for giving me the opportunity to work within schools and also to volunteer at Lincoln United Football Club. I have been with Lincoln United for coming up to three years, and I have enjoyed working within the club; they have provided plenty of opportunities for my coaching journey to develop.”

Lex graduated from the Level 5 FdSc Sports Coaching, Education and Development programme and has stayed on at the College to study the Level 6 BSc (Hons) Top-Up progression course.

The course is known for combining academic theory with hands-on, real-life coaching and teaching experiences - including delivering PE lessons in local primary schools and engaging with community sports clubs.

Through his commitment, effort and application of learning in real-world settings, Lex stands out as a testament to the value of such a practical, integrated approach to sports education and development.
