Level 2 T Level Foundation Year - Education and Childcare

This course is designed to support learners that wish to progress on a T Level in Education and Childcare, but are currently not quite in that position to do so. This course will give you the necessary opportunities to improve your GCSE English or Maths grades, help you build greater confidence of your practical ability whilst completing an industrial placement and build on your theoretical knowledge within the Education and Childcare sector.

Entry requirements

You'll need 1 GCSE grade 4 in English Language or Maths, 3 GCSE grade 3 including English Language / Maths (whichever the grade 4 wasn’t achieved) and have a keen interest in both the T Level progression and working within the Education and Childcare sector.

You’ll also need two good references (one must be from an employer or a recent school/college report). You’ll also need to show good communication skills for working with children at interview and complete a written assessment.

It is really important for you to have a criminal records check called an enhanced DBS check before you can go on your work placement.

So, you need to be aware that if you’ve received a caution, reprimand or conviction it may mean we can’t enrol you on the course and you won’t be able to get a job in the care and childcare sectors."

Study Details

Whilst on the Transition programme, you will conduct industry placement work experience whilst also completing an employer set project. The English or Maths aspect of your study will comprise of a generalised session as well as a contextualised session, written in accordance to things you will most commonly associate within the Education and Childcare sector. Throughout the Early years knowledge aspect of the course, you will both theoretically and practically study the following units as well as many more:

• Roles and Responsibilities of the Early Years Practitioner
• Equality, Diversity and Inclusive Practice in Early Years Settings
• Understand how to support Children’s Development
• Support care routines for babies and young children
• Promote play in early year setting
• Support well being of babies and young children for healthy lifestyles
• Support babies and young children to be physically active

 

Assessment & Progression

During the course you will be assessed in a number of ways. You will work to completion of the NCFE CACHE Level 2 Diploma for the Early Years Practitioner which is an industry recognised qualification to allow you work in the Early years sector. This will be assessed through theoretical, practical and observation in the workplace. You will also be assessed via examination when conducting the GCSE English or Maths qualifications on the programme.Upon successful completion of the Transition programme you will be able to progress onto the T Level Education and Childcare.

What You Will Need To Bring

All we ask is that you have a thorough willingness to want to progress in the field of Education and Childcare. We expect you to attend the course 100%, and upon arrival at college, be prepared with your stationery, ready to learn. There may also be a small cost for purchase of a polo shirt and fleeced jacket for when on placement.
