Are you someone who really cares about people? Are you resilient enough to help people through old age, illness and disability, offering them dignity and respect? If the answer is yes, then a career in health and social care may be for you!
This course provides a pathway into health and social care. You will study a combination of core and optional units and spend a significant amount of time in the industry via industry placements over two years.
Our expectations of you are high because this is a challenging industry that demands high standards and you will have people who are relying on you to support them with care when on placement.
You’ll be expected to organise your workload and develop both research and study skills over the duration of the course.
This is a course requiring significant industry placement in order to achieve the qualification, alongside your studies at college.
During the course, you’ll study:
Human lifespan
Working in health and social care
Meeting individual care and support needs
And principles of safe practice
Entry requirements
You’ll need five GCSEs at Level Four or above, including Maths at Level Four and English Language at Level Five (minimum grade C or equivalent).
You’ll also need two good references (one must be from an employer or a recent school/college report).
It is really important for you to have a criminal records check called an enhanced DBS check before you can go on your work placement.
So, you need to be aware that if you’ve received a caution, reprimand or conviction it may mean we can’t enrol you on the course and you won’t be able to get a job in the care and childcare sectors.
Assessment & Progression
Assessment
You will be continually assessed throughout the year and then submit an externally assessed assignment at the end of the year.
Progression:
If you pass you’ll be able to progress onto the Level Three Extended Diploma in Health and Social Care, or into a job in the sector.
