A lucky learner has recently been recruited to help aid Lincoln College Group’s sustainability strategy throughout 2026 and beyond.

Lois Flemington is now the College’s Youth Commissioner and joins Sustainability Lead and Projects Manager Chris Smith as they have both become part of the relaunched Lincoln Climate Commission.

Recruited in line with the Sustainability Plan as part of the Vision 2030 strategy across Lincoln and Newark campuses, Lois will offer a much-needed perspective from a younger generation that will be incredibly valuable to how the College communicates and delivers environmental and climate-related projects.

The Commission is an independent organisation that brings people together from across the public, private and voluntary sectors to help drive, guide and support climate action.

Chris says: “As part of the Commission, we also sit within the Community Engagement Working Group, which focuses on education, networks and how we communicate sustainability across the wider community.

“Having a seat at the table gives us a valuable opportunity to be the voice of education within the local climate conversation, alongside the University of Lincoln. It also allows us to learn from others and better understand our role in contributing to a more sustainable future.

“Within the College, Lois will also be a member of the Sustainability Learner Steering Group. This group will spearhead a number of student‑experience projects and ensure learners have a strong voice in shaping our approach to sustainability.

“As we begin this journey, we’re keen for staff to recommend and signpost learners who may be interested in joining the group. Colleagues can get in touch with me directly or via the email address below.”

Lois, who is studying Geography, Psychology and Politics at Lincoln College and is a swimming instructor in her spare time says: “I’m excited to start my role here as Youth Commissioner, I want to make sure future generations have what they need and that there’s a future for everyone.
