This City and Guilds 2391-52 Level 3 Award in Initial and Periodic Inspection and Testing of Electrical Installations course is for practising electricians who wish to gain qualifications in periodic inspection and testing as well as initial verification of new systems.

This course covers both Initial Verification and Periodic Inspection and Testing. For initial verification, you will:

  • Refer to the inspection requirements of BS 7671

  • Determine how to carry these inspections out

  • Explore the sequence of tests and identify why specific tests must done before others.

  • Look at the certification of installations using BS7671 model forms.

  • For periodic inspection, you will:

  • Identify why periodic inspection and testing may be the most suitable means for a client to comply with legislation.

  • Identify the risks and limitations with inspection and testing existing electrical installations already in service.

  • Identify how best to apply our engineering judgement to determine whether an installation is fit for continued use

  • Complete an Electrical Installation Condition Report

  • Submit observation codes.

  • During the course, you will be given a Learner Training Manual produced exclusively by Lincoln College for the 2391-52. You will also have unlimited access to a huge range of related resources and content using a dedicated, online Virtual Learning Environment, which you can access from the college website or through an App available for your mobile devices. You can connect with your tutor for support and receive course updates via Microsoft Teams, an application provided with Microsoft Office 365 that you can use as a student while studying at Lincoln College.

    This course includes classroom-based theory, demonstrations, simulations, exam preparation, and revision sessions. Our up-to-date training centre also offers practical refresher training if necessary.

    The course will be run over 12 weeks, two nights a week.

    Entry requirements

    You are expected to have a working knowledge of the IET Wiring Regulations, as all inspection and testing must be carried out in accordance with them. Previous experience in electrical installation work, either within the electrical contracting industry or an allied trade, is essential.

    Assessment & Progression

    All exams and assessments are conducted on-site in our purpose-built examination rooms and assessment centre. A selection of appropriate test equipment is available for you to use; however, you may bring your own if accuracy is verified.
