English Language allows you to develop your interest and appreciation of English, through learning about the language's structures; functions, developments and variations. This course is a natural progression from skills acquired at GCSE English Language.
English Language is a well-regarded subject which allows for the development of transferable skills, including the ability to communicate clearly, analyse incisively and argue a point, both orally and in writing.
This programme is particularly suitable if you want to study English Language, Linguistics or English Studies in Higher Education.
During this course, you will study:
AS Paper 1: Language and the Individual
AS Paper 2: Language Varieties
A Level Paper 1: Language, the Individual and Society
A Level Paper 2: Language Diversity and Change
A non-exam assessment Language in Action.
Entry requirements
You’ll need five GCSEs (minimum grade Four/C or above), including English Language (minimum grade Six or equivalent) and Mathematics (Minimum grade Four or equivalent).
Assessment & Progression
Assessment: Assessment is by written examination.
Progression: You could progress to A Level English Language.

You’ll need general stationery items and access to the internet; PCs are available on campus.
