This course includes practical and theoretical elements of Painting & Decorating, providing you with the underpinning skills and knowledge to progress with topics at an appropriate level to begin. This course will also offer you support, preparing you for the construction industry.

Principles of Building Construction
Information and Communication
Erecting and Dismantling Access Equipment and Working Platforms
Preparing Surfaces for Decoration
Applying Paint Systems by Brush and Roller to Non-Complex Areas
Applying Foundation and Plain Paper
Producing Specialist Decorative Finishes
Health, Safety and Welfare in Construction
Entry requirements
You’ll need GCSEs in Maths and English (minimum Grade 2 or equivalent). You’ll be asked to attend an interview and provide a reference (from an employer or recent school/college report).
Assessment & Progression
Assessment: Assessment is a combination of practical tests and written exams.
Progression: Successful completion of the Level 1 Certificate could lead to a Level 2 Diploma or Employment.

You’ll need workwear and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) from our preferred supplier; you will also need a copy of the course textbook: 'Painting and Decorating' ISBN-: 978-1- 4443-3501-9 and 'The City & Guilds Textbook Level One Diploma in Painting and Decorating' ISBN-: 978-0-85193-295-8.
