Do you consider yourself to be a protective person? Are you calm and collected in stressful or dangerous situations? Maybe you’ve thought of a career in the Armed Forces or emergency services. If so, this course may be for you.

If you want to pursue a career in public services then this is an excellent place to start. This course will provide you with the underpinning skills and knowledge to develop your skills and understanding of public services, giving you a variety of opportunities.

During this course, you will explore a mixture of theoretical and practical topics at an appropriate level

During this course, you’ll learn:

  • Teamwork, Leadership and Communication in the Uniformed Protective Services (Theory and Practical)

  • Behaviour and Discipline in the Uniformed Protective Services (Theory Exam)

  • Citizenship and Diversity (Theory)

  • Government and the Protective Services (Theory Exam)

  • Physical Preparation, Health and Wellbeing (Theory and Practical)

  • Professional Development in the Uniformed Protective Services (Theory)

  • Skills for Outdoor Activities and the Uniformed Protective Services (Theory and Practical).

During your study programme you will be required to complete volunteering, take part in enrichment activities and complete at least 30hrs relevant work experience.

Entry requirements

You will need four GCSEs at Grade Four and above or equivalent, including Maths and English Language. You will also need evidence of specific and sustained interest and motivation in a career in the Uniformed Protective Services.

You will be encouraged to attend a taster day; may be required to provide a reference (from an employer or recent school/college report); and you’ll need to demonstrate an ability to cope with a programme of physical activity.

Assessment & Progression

Assessmnet: Assessment is a combination of coursework, presentations, practical tests/observations, and exams.

Progression: Completing this course could allow you to progress into a career in the Public Services, such as the Royal Navy, Royal Marines, The Army, Royal Air Force, Ambulance Service, Police Service, Prison Service, Customs and Excise and Coastguards

What You Will Need To Bring

You’ll need an indoor practical kit with an option to purchase from our preferred supplier. You may also need an outdoor/residential kit for Skills for Outdoor Activities experiences.

You’ll also need general stationery equipment and access to the internet; PCs are available on-campus.
